Holistic Diabetes Care
A NATUROPATHIC APPROACH WITH A MIND-BODY EMPHASIS
Diabetes. Mind-body medicine. The intersection where the two meet is one focus of my naturopathic practice. You may be a child with Type 1 diabetes (or the parent of), a senior with Type 2 diabetes, or somewhere in between. Your diabetes may be well-managed, poorly managed, or you're just learning what "managed" actually means. You may feel pride, anger, frustration, confusion, contentment or a whole bunch of other things when it comes to living daily with diabetes. Whatever your individual scenario, it's likely that you are in a position of wanting or needing some support around your personal care.
I work with my diabetic patients on diet, medications, supplements, exercise, and more. But uniquely I also place high importance on addressing the mental-emotional component of living with diabetes. I want people to achieve optimal blood sugars, reduce complications, & live more joyful, less stressful lives.
THE FOUNDATION
Low-carb diet. Stop feeding your blood sugar carb-dense foods that turn into glucose. Start loading up on nutrient-dense foods that replete you with vitamins, antioxidants, protein, minerals, fiber, and hundreds of phytonutrients!
Exercise. Move your body! Whether it's in a formal gym setting or dancing across a meadow, all movement counts! Diabetics need both cardio and resistance exercise for overall fitness and blood sugar control. Muscle uses up excess glucose.
Stress and your mental health. Are you stuck? Feel resistant to making changes? Believe that things can't change? Does diabetes define you? In denial? Frustrated? The challenges of living with diabetes impact you daily. Tap into your inner strength and resilience!
Treating you as a whole person. Physical. Mental. Emotional. Spiritual. We address whatever system is out of balance: sleep, digestive, detoxification, hormonal, etc.
